AI4PEP Projects: Brazil
Title: Auto AI-Pandemics: Democratizing machine learning for analysis, study, and control of epidemics and pandemics
Host Institution: Universidade de São Paulo, São Carlos, Brazil
Objectives: This project empowers non-experts to utilize advanced ML tools, reducing inequalities in research capabilities and enhancing the ability to detect and respond to epidemic scenarios. It promotes inclusivity and accessibility in scientific research, leading to more effective public health interventions.
Outcomes: Machine learning democratized for epidemic analysis
The AutoAI-Pandemics project developed an integrated and user-friendly platform that democratizes access to machine learning (ML) algorithms for non-experts, including biologists, physicians, and epidemiologists. This platform provides automated epidemiological analysis, bioinformatics analysis, and tools to fight misinformation. Please visit https://autoaipandemics.icmc.usp.br/#about.
Contribution: The project developed the AutoAI-Pandemics platform, which includes solutions for automated epidemiological analysis, bioinformatics analysis, and misinformation detection. The platform has impacted over 260,000 people through website visits, article reads, event participation, and social media interactions. Its educational efforts have been equally remarkable, with 2,286 individuals directly benefiting from materials designed to democratize AI knowledge, while 28,441 book pages have been accessed on the MinhaBiblioteca platform, expanding learning opportunities.
Description: Local data generated is used to inform the development and deployment of responsible social and technological innovations.
